Edna Karim

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Edna Karim, who peacefully passed away in her sleep at home earlier this month. Edna is the daughter of Marion Karim and she is predeceased by her loving father and brother Nicholas and Michael Karim. She will be greatly missed by her mother, aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends, and all of those children whose lives she touched.

Edna was born on December 18, 1957, in Syracuse, New York but spent most of her life in Ottawa, Ontario. At the age of 16, she began working for Revenue Canada – a career that lasted over 30 years. Nicknamed “inch” at work because of her height, Edna shared many laughs over the years with her coworkers and family alike because of her diminutive size.

Edna had a wide range of interests including cooking, crafting and dancing. She took pleasure in baking and preparing care packages for those she loved. Cookies, banana bread, mini muffins, lift, cheese fatayer and more – she always knew what to make and specifically for whom. Making crafts for loved ones and with children warmed Edna’s heart. She had patience in teaching and showing her ‘little cousins’ the way. Edna also loved to dance, especially the Salsa. She found joy in Latin, Caribbean and Arabic music and dancing. She was always willing to teach anyone who wanted to learn and also made it her goal to get everyone onto the dance floor.

Edna, your generous, thoughtful and youthful spirit will be remembered by family and friends. You touched our lives. We will always miss you. We will always love you and may you Rest In Peace.

Donations may be sent to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) , 401 Smyth Road, Ottawa, ON K1H 8L1.

A private funeral will be held at a later date.
